"The Brooklyn-Irish Hills Chamber of Commerce is the sponsor and host of some of the great events and promotions in the area, including the Irish Hills Lake & Home Tour, All-Sports Spectacular, Rockin' the Hills and Taste of the Irish Hills. More importantly, the Chamber is how the local businesses and professionals can band together to be a strong force in community development and business retention in the area. Now more than ever, being a chamber member is so important. The Brooklyn-Irish Hills Chamber is a positive force in our local economy. From having a voice in the community development to networking opportunities, there are many membership benefits. We offer great group advertising rates, low cost (free) seminars and so much more. I encourage all local businesses and professionals to become a member of the Brooklyn-Irish Hills Chamber of Commerce, and be a part of our exciting future."

Daniel Ross, Vice Chair
"I was born in Detroit, MI and lived in a northern suburb until my 12th birthday. On that day, my family moved to the small town of Harrison. This is where I fell in love with the small town feel and knew city life wasn’t for me. My travels after graduation led me to living in numerous geographic locations in Southern Michigan, including Detroit, Novi, Fowlerville and Ann Arbor. In 2001 I had the opportunity to move anywhere I wanted due to a cushy career at Pfizer. I choose to be here and purchased 30 acres on the Northern Rim of the Irish Hills.
I started traveling around to take in all the sights in the area a few weeks after I moved. Then one day, my entire child hood came back to me in a flash. I was driving down US-12 and came across all of the old tourist spots that included Mystery Hill, the towers, Prehistoric Forest and Hayes State Park. As a kid, my family used to come out here and camp and I spent many vacations in the area. As much as I remembered about what we did, it was lost on a pre-teen kid where those things took place. Now I was calling them home and everything seemed to come full circle. Maybe it was the area calling me back more than me choosing to be here. Fate certainly had something to do with it.

"A few years after my move, that cushy job at Pfizer went away. The entire facility shut down and I had to make a choice. Move to another state to keep my job or stay here and try to make things work. Again, I chose the Irish Hills and started my own business called TransPharm. Now it is my goal to invest back into the community I call home and it is my hope that I can create some memories for others to hold onto for the rest of their life."

Angela Jeffrey, Treasurer
My name is Angela Jeffrey. In May 2018 I relocated to the west side of the Irish Hills, in Jerome, MI. However, I have worked in the Brooklyn-Irish Hills Community for the past 12 years in my position as a Regional/Area manager, at Flagstar Bank. In 2016 they eliminated those positions and placed us directly in branches. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to work at the Brooklyn Office beginning July 2017, and I have really enjoyed this chapter of my career. I recently celebrated my 18th work anniversary and I must add that I love the company, team members and communities we serve.

As mentioned, I have participated in several Business After Hours, Race Days events, meetings, and other involvements with the Brooklyn Irish Hills Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber and its members have always been hospitable and accommodating, making me feel like I belong here. I now have the opportunity to serve the Brooklyn Irish Hills Community by being more involved in their Chamber of Commerce. I feel very privileged to be a part of the board, as it allows me to connect with many business owners in the Irish Hills Community. It is exciting to know I am helping make a difference in the communities in which I serve.

In years past, I have served on non-profit boards such as Family Promise of Branch County, as well as the fundraising committee for Habitat for Humanity of Branch County.

"I am the owner of Sacred Touch Massage Therapy located on 11999 Brooklyn Road just south of Brooklyn and am the busy mother of two young girls. I have lived in the Brooklyn/Onsted area since my pre-school years and graduated from Onsted High School. I was very involved as an athletic trainer at OHS and went on to study at Northern Michigan University. I then transferred to the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy where I graduated in 2007. I have always been the one who wanted to care for others especially when they were hurting. This career has offered me that opportunity and gives me the chance to help people who are looking for pain relief that is available outside the medical field. I started my own business in 2006 which continues to assist and supplement in the wellness of the Brooklyn area. As a therapist I work with medical professionals by extending care to their patients as well. I continue to serve as a specialist in massage therapy; I am also a Yoga instructor and have an active role in the community through volunteer and fundraising events. I have organized and assisted in local charities such as Hospice Holiday 5K Run/Walk and have helped create the group known today as the 'The Irish Hills Young Professionals.' I have always been committed to any challenge I feel is a benefit to others. As a member of the chamber I continue to put all my efforts into the activities and meaning of caring for the community."

"Oh, how I love these Irish Hills! Growing up I knew that this was a special place, whether it be swimming, fishing, tubing, sledding, ice skating, taking in the glittery sunrises, the picturesque sunsets or putzing around on the pontoon, I loved every minute of it! Now sharing this magical place with my incredible husband and 2 amazing daughters has helped me to appreciate my home town even more! It is amazing how no matter where in the world we have visited, we have come across people that know and LOVE 'The Irish Hills'. What an honor it is to serve the very community I was born and raised in! Now I get to help people explore, fall in love and find a home in this beautiful part of the world, I am a lucky girl. Seven years ago I joined the chamber and have enjoyed all that it has to offer and appreciate all the service it does for the community. I am the chair of the Irish Hills Lake & Home Tour and have attended many of the well-organized events that the Chamber and its member have put on. I am very impressed with the Chambers broad reach in and around the Irish Hills, as well as by the participation of the members and am very proud to be a small part of that."

I grew up in Crown Point, Indiana. At the start of high school my family moved west to Arizona. I went to Arizona State University and earned my Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering and worked as a Civil Engineer and later for Windstream Telecommunications as a manager and engineer. To deal with stress I started doing various martial arts. It was during this time that I met a beautiful girl, my wife Sara, she introduced me to yoga, massage and natural medicine. That led to a Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and new career. After we had children we decided to move. I wanted to move back to the mid-west to raise our children with the good mid-west values and small town childhood that I had and Sara was from Onsted so we moved to Brooklyn. We now own Sacred Touch Healing Arts Center.

Sacred Touch Healing Arts Center - we strive to provide the best in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, Massage, healthy snacks, ionic foot detox baths, classes on natural healing and so much more! We have been longstanding Chamber members and will continue to be huge fans! We are dedicated to treating you in a focused, personalized, and holistic manner. Why Us? We use the five paths of Chinese Medicine to help relieve you of your dis-ease. They are Acupuncture, Massage, Herbal Medicine, Nutrition (including Detoxification), and movement therapy (Qi Gong and Tai Chi) in a combination that is unique to your condition. We specialize in Sports Injuries and Pain, Chronic Illnesses, Allergies/ Asthma, Infertility and the discomforts that can be associated with pregnancy. Call for a free 15 minute consultation to ask questions about your specific health concerns and how Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can help you resolve your complex and chronic conditions and help put you back on a path of wellness!

I love the Village of Brooklyn. I haven't experienced the type of friendliness and openness that seems to come naturally to the people that live in the Irish Hills. Although I'm still adjusting to the winter I had forgotten how nice it is to have more seasons than just hot and hotter.

I have never owned a business before and the Chamber has helped me keep my sanity! The community of small business that they have built is amazing. Not only are they interested in helping the small business in the area but they want to build a community! The events and training opportunities that they provide are first rate and are fun, both to attend and to volunteer at.

"I was born in Wyandotte, Michigan and made my first trip to Wamplers Lake before I was one year old. My grandmother had a cottage on the South Shore of Wamplers Lake and then gave each of her children a lot. My family built a cottage and I spent every summer there until I graduated from St. Patrick’s High School.

"I attended Eastern Michigan University. I earned a B.S. degree, a Masters in Reading, and a Specialist degree in Educational Leadership.

"I taught First Grade at Wyandotte Catholic, Third Grade at Gibraltar Public Schools, and then came to Onsted Community Schools. "Devils Lake and Vineyard Lake were two places I called home throughout my childhood. After graduating from Western Michigan University, I knew I wanted to make my way back to the Irish Hills area.

"I met my husband, Rob, and we decided to settle down in the area where we are raising our 2 beautiful daughters, Chloe and Lily. Upon deciding to start a family, we decided to open a preschool and daycare. I was able to use my degree in Elementary Education while having the opportunity to be with my own children at the same time.

"In 2014, our youngest, Lily, became very ill. We spent several weeks in the hospital and were faced with many difficult decisions; one of which was whether or not to close the preschool and daycare center. We made the decision to close the doors because family has always been most important, what changed was our concept of “time.” Time is something the majority of us, unintentionally, take for granted every day. During Lily’s illness, the concept of time and how we spent it took on a whole new meaning. As Lily began to improve and get back to her spunky-self, I knew I would eventually have to go back to work.

"Having a new appreciation for time, I realized how important it truly is to have a healthy work/life balance. I know how difficult it can be to find that balance. Too often our time is spent doing things we have to do rather than on things we want to do. I thought how nice it would be to delegate those types of tasks, the ones we don’t want to do. It was then that I started Simplified Living, a concierge service providing assistance to households and businesses in the Irish Hills and surrounding areas.

"I now have the flexibility back in my schedule so I don’t have to miss a softball game or dance recital. At the same time, I'm fortunate enough to run a business that supports my outlook on life. Simplified Living is committed to providing our customers with happier lives by preserving their time so they can spend it how they want. After all, time IS precious!"

"While growing up in Napoleon, I had a hard time understanding the reason my parents decided to settle down in the Irish Hills area. I had my sights set on getting out of town and heading to a "big city." I spent 4 years attending the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, filling my desire to feel apart of a larger community. Throughout that time, I spent many weekends back home. I felt peaceful when I would return and slowly came to the realization that I wanted to come back and plant my roots in this area. I started my career at Comerica Bank in 2008, while still attending college, and eventually worked my way up to Assistant Banking Center Manager in Brooklyn.

"My involvement in the Chamber of Commerce began with my membership in the Irish Hills Young Professionals. During my time as treasurer, I was able to reconnect with the community and see the Irish Hills with a fresh set of eyes. I have fallen back in love with this area and am excited to continue my involvement in this special place I call home."

"The Irish Hills and been home for most of my life. As a child, I moved a few times outside of the area but we always seemed to come back. Growing up on Clark Lake were some of my best memories and it is where I learned how to fish at the age of four. This is still a passion to this day and being in the woods during hunting season wraps up my year end hobbies. I love to travel around the world, but it is always nice knowing that I have such a wonderful home and community to come back to. The people in the area are the nicest and everyone really does seem to know your name or have your back if you are in need. We've been in business since 2008 and are looking at starting the Old Irish Mill project in Brooklyn. This is our way of investing back into the community that has given us so much.

"I don’t see myself ever living outside of the area and want to continue to do my part to make the Irish Hills a place for everyone to be proud of."

April Scott is a Brooklyn-Irish Hills Chamber Ambassador because she loves the Irish Hills community and is passionate about the chamber. She is also passionate about her business. April Scott has always had photography in her life. She grew up with photography all around her in the home, as her mother was a photographer, so she got to see firsthand the magic of photos come to life in a darkroom. Later in life, as April’s children got older, she went back to school and was able to make her passion her career.

April Scott Photo is located in downtown Grass Lake above the pharmacy, 110 E. Michigan Ave, Grass Lake.

"I am super passionate about making sure my clients have a unique experience", claims April, “I am not someone that goes in and completely retouches who you are and takes away your wrinkles. You are who you are, and I want you to own your beauty."

April loves what she does, it’s not just a job, it’s her passion. "The moments that mean the most to me are when a client can truly see how beautiful they are through my imagery."

April Scott Photo specializes in all types of photography including family portraits and family reunions. She will come to you and capture your special family moments in a photo journalistic way. April states. "I love the real moments. Let me go on the boat with you. Let me capture the kids tubing, them playing in the yard. Grandpa helping someone fish. The moments you need to be experiencing, and not behind the camera yourself. That family-time. Let me capture that for you."
